Welcome to Hurricane Season 2006
The Hurricane Center has predicted a very active 2006 hurricane season (17 named storms, 9 hurricanes, 5 of Category 3 or higher) - so what does that mean for Miami? More days off of work? More damage to roofs that are still not fixed? Wet weather for the next few months?
So what kind of names are we expected to hear this season?
(Thanks MM for the list)
And where will they land? Nobody knows yet...but let's take a look at last years busy season and remember that nobody in South East USA was able to hide.
Are you getting prepared? What should you buy? Check out these tips.
Make sure to stock up on fruits and things that don't need to be refrigerated. Get food in jars/cans/pouches that don't need to be cooked (like peanut butter, tuna fish, crackers, nuts). And plenty of water!!!
Over your next few visits to the grocery store buy one or two non perishable items and bottles of water to keep in storage so you don't end up running out the night before a hurricane to stock up. And if you have the room in your freezer, start making blocks of ice to use in your coolers. Oh yea, buy a cooler.

we been meaning to start buying supplies...
i thought about this a lot yesterday. hurricanes turned out to be quite fun last year, with days off work and the comparitvely short power outages. but, there's the possibility of serious damage and even death. in that case, i hope we have a non-active hurricane season, but we will definitely prepare for the worst.
oh, and i hope Hurricane Kirk is a badass. (you know, like Star Trek.)
for some reason, i always used to imagine hurricanes as fun too...but after seeing how devastating they can be, i feel bad for ever being that silly. anyway, i hope that even if there are so many expected hurricanes, they prove to be mild and harmless!
i'll be in miami from september 8-10. is it still hurricane season then?
right in the thick of it, julie. fortantely or Un.
