The Diaper Cake

Today Lori and I are going to try our hands at a little craft project. Lori has her baby shower this weekend and we are going to make a Diaper Cake as a centerpiece for the party. Hopefully it will look something like this:

So for now I am checking out some online "how to" instructions like this one, this one, and this one. It looks pretty easy.

Anyone ever make one of these before? Suggestions?

(P.S. - can you believe it is already time for Lori's baby shower??? She is just around 8 and a half months pregnant!)

UPDATE: Everyone must see this amazing diaper cake Happy Roy made:

Beautiful, isn't it? Let's see if I could pull off something similar.

hey shawn, i made a diaper cake centerpiece for my best friend's baby shower 2 years ago. i didn't follow any directions online, though i'm sure that would have helped! i basically just folded a ton of diapers in half and had my my mom hold them together as i stacked them next to each other, leaving a lot of space in the middle for the bottom row. then on the 2nd row, i'd move the diapers in a bit more (leaving less space in the middle). on the top row, i just kept all the diapers together so that they met in the middle. (does that make sense?). i had the cp on a round tray. after i made the layers, i wraped the cake in ribbons that said "it's a girl!" and then also inserted some silk flowers to make it more centerpiece-like. you can buy a bunch of rattles and other small baby items and tuck them in as well. check your email. i'll send you a pic of the cp i made.

hah shawn, i'm like the least creative and crafty person i know. that winter, i caught some form of the martha stewart craftiness bug and i started experimenting with stuff. this was a super easy project to tackle and was a fun way to get into the world of homemade craft projects! i have no doubt that you can make something a lot better looking.

btw, congrats to lori! can't wait to see the pics of the little one.
