Project Runway Recap of Season 3 - Episode 4 - Immediately Dismissed

This week I am going to keep this short and sweet. I did a live play by play on Blogging Project Runway's blog. Check it out of you want all the details of this week's episode.

The model pick was new this week. Instead of only the winner picking their model - now all the designers get to pick new models. And most of them switch up. What was interesting was that Uli took Keith's model because she thought he shouldn't have the advantage of a good model (which then made it cool for everyone to switch, which almost everyone did!) - I never thought of Uli as trying to "play the game" but I guess she is on a competition reality show...so I shouldn't put it past anyone on this show.

Everyone is told that they are going to do a 3 piece outfit for Inc. (Macy's brand) and they each have to sketch a design - show it to Macy's representative Mehmet Tangoren - and he will pick the top 4 and then teams will be made to make the top 4 designs.

The winners and teams broke down like this:

Angela picks Michael and Laura

Robert picks Kayne and Vincent

Keith picks Allison and Jeffrey

Bonnie picks Uli and Bradley (he feels like the kid left out at kickball because he was picked last)

The groups head over to Mood and it looks like Keith has a "Trick" up his sleeve. He bargains down the price of the material so he can stay within the $100 budget. And they do it!! Are we going to have to ask Keith to leave? Not just yet...

Ok so you probably want to know what happened this week....who was asked to leave? What did they do? Well, if you guess Keith, you are correct. If you guessed it was sketchgate, you were wrong!

It all started with Kayne finding a patternmaking book that Keith had around his bed. He went to Robert and Michael to spread the news. Apparently this is very much against the rules because you cannot bring outside resources of any kind into the competition (including magazines or other how-to books).

Well Robert tells Kayne that this must be reported. And suddenly "ding dong" - Tim Gunn is at the door. He sits down with Keith and explains that he cannot bring in patternmaking books - and on top of that Keith went out on his own for a few hours and went on the internet at some point - thus breaking more rules! This is when Tim "has to ask him to leave" - and Keith must oblige.

Keith apologizes to the group - knows he screwed up and tarnished his image - and bows his head in shame.

And now Allison and Jeffrey have to go on without their Team Leader. As shady as Keith is the whole thing was kinda sad. And now the two other designers are left with a really complex design that they didn't create. But of course the ones who have the odds against them rise to the top on Project Runway. Well, ok, they didn't win - but at least they didn't totally screw up and go home!

Angela's team is freaking out a little...but they get used to working with her. They first thought she was nuts, but they had what it took to tame the beast!

Robert's team is reminding me a bit of the 3 stoogers. They all kinda stand around and pose - make funny voices (oh wait that is just Vincent's normal accent) - talk about "laughing hyenas" ....and in the meantime they are coming up with something that belongs on a woman who is going to serve me a cocktail and mini pretzels on an airplane. Ok really, it wasn't that bad - it just wasn't interesting.

Bonnie's team is doing their job but it seems that the leader's design wasn't "Inc." enough. We were being transported to 1970 and there was no Ashton Kutcher in sight! We aren't hip and happening...we are wearing a granny diper, putting on our fake afro, putting gaudi gold chains around our kneck - and taking a trip to the grocery store - all at the same time! How is that possible? Maybe she thought Inc. made the clothing line in a 1974 Haband catalog.

So who is named the winner and who is out?

Winner: Angela
The judges loved her design and thought she really understood the Inc. brand. The short jacket, longer shirt thing was totally young and trendy - and the pants and jacket had unique touches like rosette buttons - which scared the hell out of Laura and Michael at first, but then they grew to love them! I think those rosettes spray out drugs which put the person in an Angela love zone - and yes, those rosettes were pretty and Angela is Yves Saint Laurent!

Second Best: Jeffrey and Allison

This team had the odds against them. Their leader was kicked off and they were making a design that was entirely not their own. But they did an excellent job and even though it was Keith's vision I could only see Jeffrey and Allison in the outfit. There was this ultra hip modern edgy style, with a little punk rock and roll feel.

Out: Bonnie

See what I mean 1970's? And I wish you could see it with the jacket open!!! UGH! Sorry Bonnie - you weren't entertaining enough anyway.

Almost out: Robert (for Robert's team of Kayne and Vincent)

The Judges made a great point - the style of the different pieces did not match. A sporty jacket with a preppy dress - and pumps? Not to mention the slit that went up to her "fanny"!!!! Maybe the group just didn't mesh well? Maybe there needed to be some help from all the team members on what worked and what didn't work? I don't know - I just can't wait to see Vincent go!

Predictions:

Out within the next few episodes: Bradley (he is cracking under the pressure), Vincent (please!!), Robert (sadly), Kayne (this one is sad also), Laura (she makes too many damn coats)

Final 3? Uli, Allison, Michael (he just has something going on even though he is never on camera and we have only seen like 2 of his outfits)

Still not sure about Jeffrey....

Winner? Allison

I still love Uli - she makes great dresses - but I don't know if she can pull off a full line at Fashion Week that would be good enough to win. (But maybe I shouldn't doubt her....she surprises me everytime).

Can I please use some of those screencaps? I can't find any other ones and I'll upload them to an image-hosting site so it won't screw up bandwidth.
