Friday Night Lights

Seeing as how we discuss television shows we like, I thought I'd add my two cents to the mix by asking about it. Who's seen it? What do you think about it? Like it or not? Is it better than the book/movie? Who's your favorite/least favorite character? So far, I adore Coach Taylor
and Matt Saracen.

If there's a little interest in the show, I might find it within myself to provide recaps. If you haven't seen it yet, you must tune in.

that's the beauty of this show. it's not really about football. i mean superficially it is, but it's about so much more! football is the outlet for the show's examination of the human experience. it subtly touches upon issues like racial and socioeconomic strife, the iraq war, alzheimer's, disability and paralysis, teenage drinking, and what happens when an entire town bases its hopes and dreams on a group of high schoolers going through their formative years. the way they try to shoulder the expectations while just trying to make it through the day is simultaneously heartbreaking and aggravating. i really recommend it!

I just can't say enough about my love for this show! I think it's main problem is that it doesn't fit into some cute categorization. It's not a teen drama, and yet it is. It's not a sports show, and yet it is. It's not a Seventh Heaven type of "feel good" show, and yet it is. For that matter it's not a religious show, yet religion is a heavy part of it. It defies cliche after cliche. They have stolen scenes straight out of sports movies, yet reinvigorated them.

Sorry- I'm babbling like a sycophant, but I just want to urge everyone to watch. It would be a real shame to have this show disappear before it closes out a full season (at the least).
