when does someone have too much power?

sandra day o'connor has just announced her retirement from the supreme court. our commander in chief will now most likely get to name two justices, one of them to be the chief justice. not so good if you are agains the christain right. o'connor was an important swing vote in abortion and other important issues. with bush now deciding who gets to replace her, and probablly soon rehinquist too, it could get kinda ugly.

the story is here:

this issues - the Supreme Court appointees - should have been the driving force of the most recent election. Did Kerry even mention it? I watched all the debates, I can't recall.

In fact, I can't recall almost anything Kerry said. I voted for him and I thought he would make a good President, but he was so WEAK on all the major issues. So quick to go on the defensive, to scale back any attack to appeal to the "swing voters." I blame him losing a lock election, imho.

And now we (and the world) have to deal with the consequences.

Just say the word, Shawn. We'll apply for our visas and get in line behind the other ten thousand people. We should be ready to go by the time Jeb Bush finishes his second term.

And Tim, I wish you're right. That they'll be actual debate and maybe even some fisticuffs. I fear the Democrats rolling over (yet again) and letting an ultra conversative, former counsel for Exxon, and game hunter on the highest court in the land.

i think it's really interesting b/c the last supreme court appointees by republican presidents turned out to rule unexpectedly on seminal cases like the sherman antitrust, race segregation in public schools, etc. call me a fool, but i'm not so worried.
