Iraqi's Fear

Iraqis wonder what price they'll pay in Katrina's wake
"Our hearts and our prayers are with the victims," Planning Minister Barham Saleh says. "But one should also keep in mind the importance of reconstruction in Iraq. You cannot leave Iraq alone, because failure is not an option here."

Now that the recent hurricanes have tore up parts of the Gulf Coast, and money is being used to rebuild after the storms, Iraqis are worried that Bush will forget that he started a war, demolished cities, and promised to rebuild.

The hurricanes come at a time when money for Iraq's reconstruction is running low. Congress approved $18.4 billion in 2003, but $5 billion was later set aside to rebuild Iraq's military and police.

Bush says he is committed to rebuilding both Iraq and the Gulf Coast. Can the US budget afford it?

probably not. obviously, the government will and SHOULD do everything they can to rebuild the Gulf Coast. Debt and Bush's stupid policies be damned.

What gets me is Bush's "compassionate conservative" base all aflutter for Bush's proposed egregious spending in HELPING AMERICANS.

(Furthering my opinion that Republicans are evil.)
