Is Macy's the New Corporate Super Power?
A beautiful department store, which can be found in the heart of Chicago, called Marshall Field's, is being bought out and renamed Macy's.
Down here in Florida another huge department store called Burdines (also known as "The Florida Store") has also been bought out and renamed Burdines-Macy's. Many of the malls in Florida already had a Macy's - and you will be surprised to know that now those same malls have TWO Macy's!!!! (why 2?)
Burdines was something that Florida can call it's own. Just like Marshall Field's is for the people of Chicago. It was one of those local pride things. Ohh we have our own special department store that nobody else has in this country. They make their own specialty items. But now, that is gone.
I remember in NY that Macy's always had this going out of business feel to it - but now it looks like they are taking over the world. Are they the new corporate super power next to companies like GE, AOL, Microsoft, or McDonald's?
