Katrina Update

"To the extent the federal government didn't fully do its job right, I take responsibility" --President Bush

Do you buy it?

IN OTHER NEWS....

From Wendys.com

"Company employees that have been impacted by Katrina will continue to receive their paychecks. Wendy's will attempt to find alternative employment for those who have relocated. Each company employee will also receive a stipend to help them meet immediate, pressing needs. The cost of these efforts is expected to exceed $2 million."

Good Job!

Condie sees Katrina as an opportunity to rebuild the South

"Secretary of State Condoleezza Rice, defending President Bush's record on racial issues, said yesterday that the hurricane disaster that disproportionately struck poor blacks in New Orleans "gives us an opportunity" to rectify historic injustices that she experienced as an African-American growing up in the South."

What's your opinion?

I think Bush is full of shit. He's a hair away from not caring anymore and said, "Look at me, I can take responsibility! Hey! Wait! Come back!"

Wendy's is cool. I don't see any other corporation doing anything like that. How many poor people from New Orleans worked in IHOP or Taco Bell or one of a hundred other heartless corporations with money to burn. Where's their outpouring of support?

As for the new "War on Poverty" (check Newsweek), I think it's a great cause and I wish we could eradicate poverty and homelessness and hunger, but I feel like it's bullshit again and we may have some hearings and a whole bunch of news articles about it but in a year, nothing will change. (Maybe. Hopefully not!)

Bush came out in all TV's a few minutes ago. From Europe... I find it far too late!!! After he already tried to pass the ball to others, and we all show it.
And this happens a few hours before he's meeting about 100 & some many country leaders at the UN... Unfortunatelly too late to be believed as true humble conciousness but more a marketing strategy , another one of those which finally cause all confusion and in which they all waste time getting ready besides approaching reality.
Can a hurricane be erradicated? Could the walls which "secure" New Orleans be in better shape? Isnt it that all over there is about "security" lately? What about all those houses, trailers, mobile homes, paper cottages that still are the homes for many americans who live in hurricane striking areas?
We were really ashtonished first time I was in Miami, seing all those "very fragile" homes, in the most powerfull country in the world, in an area where natural disasters have obvious changes to hit... Has there being any changes to these?
In Europe that would not be so likely to happen, to see houses flowing done the road, flying or absolutelly mashed. Not that I could imagine. Plus EU is not a hurricane area as Florida i.e.

To late Bush to be believed! A renouncement to his position would be far more acceptable.

He couldn't even get out an apology or talk about what he was taking responsibility FOR exactly, in detail.

I kind of got the impression that he was saying it as if he was doing something heroic... "Look at me, I'm the president and I take responsibility"...

which means nothing if not followed by an apology or a specific plan of how you are gonna fix it!

ugh!

popeyes is all over new orleans - they totally should be doing something like this

but on their website they said they pleged like 2 million to relief efforts and on top of that they have a place on their website to ensure that their employees who have left the cities still are in contact and get paid (but i dont know if they are getting paid for this time when they cannot work)
