War is Sooooo Last Season

Dalai Lama Tells U.S. Crowd War Outdated
PISCATAWAY, N.J. - The Dalai Lama told 36,000 people at Rutgers Stadium that the concept of war was outdated and young people have a responsibility to make this century one of peace.

"This whole planet is just us," the 70-year-old exiled monk said Sunday. "Therefore, destruction of another area essentially is destruction of yourself."

Tibet's spiritual leader also urged the audience to develop a wider world perspective, not just focus on "America, America, America."

"His quiet mind is the kind of serenity New Jersey, home of strip malls, could use," Arielle Gomberg said.

Thank you very much for bringing out words of wisdom.
Our life task is to quiet our minds YES and to do so we must develop our soul awarness which only meditation will do, No matter the amount of excuses our mind will find to avoid this and convince us of the contrary.

But this cannot be learnd in books no matter how many you read, neither by attending or listening to wise spiritual masters. Some read and try to preach without true practice themselves and cause lots of harm in many. No matter what we try in the mind state, unless we start the practise of meditation in the primary light and sound no reward, no awarness, no peace, no love, no quietness... So what is this that we are looking for? What else do we need in terms to start?

Ethical life, absolute vegetarian diet, no drugs, no alcohol.... and among all meditation. In the end, meditation puts everything in place.
But this is not only a few masters duty, they provide the path but we must practice.
Some people go like... "sure, you meditate for me too" as like when at your job you ask someone else to work a day for you...
This does not work here at all. The only responsibility we got is to bring our souls back home and only oneself can do it for him/herSelf.
Finding a true living master is a must too and in this world of interests this is a hard task... Could recommend a few points to detect who NOT to follow. But whoever -master- who request money for the -teachings- is not a true master so it should automatically be avoided, and physical yoga although it quiets temporary your mind do not develops your spirituality.
Spirituality cannot be sold, is the only thing in life not under the give-take rule. Therefore only a true master will put you in the way and request not a scent for it.
It's proben already mind is not taking us to any good.
Is time to become one soul again.

While I agree with the Dalai Lama's philosphoies on peace, I do not think meditation is the answer to all problems.

We live in an extremely faceted reality where there are no absolutes: Vegeterianism is not required for spiritual peace and neither is being clean and sober.

The real way to change the world? Little by little by little. Cultural change at the highest level of power (read: The West), through art and literature or politics, is the only way I see that we all be rid of the destruction and corruption brought about about by war.

Im really surprised by the categoric statement about the no requirements of vegetarianism.. etc for achieving spiritual peace, so I'll like to know as for you how someone reach there.

I think it's highly indiviualivized. And I think the Dalai Lama would be the first to say that there are many, many, many paths to enlightenment (or peace, or happiness).

I mentioned the vegetarianism because you did and I have a slight pet peeve against people who champion vegetarianism. I'm the converse, I'm a champion of the Food Chain and our dominance over it.

Alright! I dont get the "pet peeve" meaning but anyway, I dont take food choosing as a championship.

yes, we've strayed from the topic at hand.

War.

The Dalai Lama's point, in my opinion, was that young people in this country need to take action to stop the deluge of war profiteering and fearmongering that has taken over the country. The way to do this is NOT to barrcade yourself in your room and meditate but to go out and take action and speak out against the government and for other countries.
