Charlie and the Chocolate Factory
Anyone see it? Let's discuss.
I did! I LOVED IT!
I will write about it in the comments section so I won't ruin it for anyone.

Loved:
The additions to the story - the dads (both Charlie's and Willie's), the squirels, the opening puppet musical at the factory.
Loved:
The moment when Charlie found the ticket. It felt more magical in this version for some reason.
Loved:
The colors - the facelift to the scenery - this is the way the original was trying to look but couldn't do because the technology wasn't updated yet.
Didn't love so much:
The new oompa loompa songs - I really loved the originals -- the new ones are not as easy to follow and sing-able.
Loved:
How weird Depp is. Wonka is a weird guy - and Depp does a great job with it. I think he ties with Wilder's Wonka.
Loved:
That the story is basically the same, but it just adds some new elements that make it a little more interesting. Of course the ending is a bit different - but I thought that it didn't take away from the story.
I liked it, but felt like it could have been better. I have a feeling it was more like the book and I was expecting something more from the crazy mind of Tim Burton.
The preview for "Corpse Bride" that precedes the movie is a perfect example of what I mean. Burton's brain is skewed and weird (much like his appearence.) And the movie definitely had its demented moments, but lacked the overall drugged-out sense of fucked-up-ness I sorta expected.
But then again, I guess it's a kid's movie and it was fucked up enough for a kid's movie.
Visually, it was pretty amazing. Except for a few moments: the big oompa loompa shots looked badly put together. The river room was particularly pretty, though.
Overall: 4 out of 5 Chocolate Bars.
I loved it too! It was one of my favorite books as a child.
This version was actually much much closer to the book than the first movie. How he found the ticket, the squirrels, the Dad, the ending (mostly)and actually the lyrics of the new oompa loompa songs (if memory serves me right) were all elements of the book that were changed in the original movie.
The only thing that wasn't in the book was the Willy's father being a dentist thing. and of course having the songs musically so contemporary... in the book I believe the oompa loompas were described as singing in weird little rhymes.
overall, I thought it was lots of fun, and I'm glad they got rid of the whole subplot of the other candy maker trying to get recipes through the children. That was invented for the first movie and I never liked it, I thought it weighed the story down considerably.
