I hated it. Everything about it.
I feel like it cheapened a lot of what people in NYC were doing after 9/11 by mimicking it in the movie.
I feel like there were way too many gaps in the story.
His car worked and so did the TV station's van - but nobody else?
That video camera someone was using during the attacks in the beginning of the movie worked -- but all the power in the entire world was out?
And what about that scene when the people get sucked up by the tripod, and they save Cruise's life from the alien when nobody cared about all the other people who went before him.
And don't even get me started on the ending. By some miracle this one block where the house is was in perfect shape, in a city that was completely destroyed. Grandma, Grandpa, Auntie, kiddies, dogs, Pregnant Mommy, the dead Son - all appear at the door, as if they were easily sitting there waiting for Cruise to show up - while Cruise had to hide in basements, kill a man, drive across country, watch everyone die around him, and cheat death too many times to count in order to stay alive. That is just dumb.
Sure the special effects were good - but that shouldn't save a movie.
Mini-series means que cheesy music. Fitting.
