We Are Aggregated (whatever that means)

A website called Miami's News has contacted me and asked if they can "aggregate" our site onto their site. Apparently they are a website that feeds posts from other blogs onto their site as a collection of Miami news.

They have other similar sites in:

Nashville
Tucson
Houston, and
Los Angeles

I guess we talk about Miami enough to get fed into their site. So check out the site and let's hope we get some posts on there soon!

Soil & Health

This website focuses on providing free e-books about holistic agriculture, holistic health and self-sufficient homestead living. There are secondary collections about social criticism and transformational psychology.

There are four major subject areas:

Radical Agriculture. The nutritional qualites of food and consequently the health of the animals and humans eating that food are determined by soil fertility. This section's interest is far wider than organic gardening and farming; other health-determined approaches to food-raising are also included. Go to the Agriculture Library

The Restoration and Maintenance of Health. Nutritional medicine heals disease, builds and maintains health with dietand sometimes heals with fasting or other forms of dietary restriction. There are many approaches represented in this collection. There is also a collection concerning longevity and nutritional anthropology. Go to the Health Library

Achieving Personal Sovereignty. Physical, mental, and spiritual health are linked to one's lifestyle. This collection focuses on liberating activities, especially homesteading and the skills it takes to do thatsmall-scale entrepreneuring, financial independence, frugality, and voluntary simplicity. There is also a collection of social criticism, especially from a back-to-the-land point of view. Go to the Personal Sovereignty Library

Achieving Spiritual Freedom.
There are many seemingly-different self-betterment roads. The books in this collection seek to empower a person to effect their own development in an independent manner. Go to the Spiritual Freedom Library.

Digital Camera Shopping

So now that the countdown begins to the Alaskan Cruise it is time to start buying all those great travel items - which for me includes a new digital camera (i dropped my old one and broke it).

I know you all have them so I'm asking for some opinions. Right now this is my favorite:

It is a Canon S2 IS. A little bigger than what I originally wanted, but it has 12x zoom, image stabilization and a lot of other great features. I am a camera geek and want as many options as possible - and this camera so far looks like it is the winner.

But that said, I am open to suggestions. I love Nikon cameras and a bunch of other Canon's look good too. And although those sweet looking slim cameras are pretty, do they take good pictures?

If you have any good camera suggestions please let me know.

Freedom of the Seas

Royal Caribbean's newest boat has just arrived in the port of Miami. It is the largest passenger cruise ship in the world. I drove by it this morning and the size of the ship was enough to stop traffic.
These pictures can't even do it justice. The boat has a rock climbing wall, an ice skating rink, an interactive water playground and a surf park (that's a pool that you can surf in and simulates 10-foot ocean waves moving at 20 miles per hour!). And the boat feels like the size of a high rise building (width and length).

It can hold over 4000 passengers and starts its regular route on June 4th, where it will do a round trip Miami cruise and stop in Mexico, Grand Cayman, Jamaica, and Haiti.

The Clinton Marriage

Someone has been watching the Clintons very closely lately. They have counted the number of days they are apart and together - and even how many hours they see each other.

This leads to my question...if Hilary Clinton runs for President will her marriage with Bill Clinton be a way of deflecting from the issues? Will the media focus more on her ability to be a wife rather than her ability to run the nation?

It is obvious someone is doing their homework now so when the time comes they are ready to attack. This is unfortunate because nobody ever questions a President's ability to be a good father (look at Bush and his drugged/drunk daughters) - but once a woman is named as a potential leader everyone wants to know whether her marriage is stable or if her kids were raised well.

There was also some gossip over the past few months that Condoleeza Rice was going to run for President. Who knows if that is true - but do you think that her status as a single woman would affect her campaign? Possibly the public will see that she is so focused on her career that the presidency will be her #1 priority.

What do you think?

I wonder if pro-active is going to sue her ass.

Ok maybe this was just bad lighting.

so tell me, what's up with Paris Hilton's boob in this picture?

TAPE? If so why, she has nothing to hold up anyway. Oh maybe to keep that piece of floss in place over her nipple, not like we haven't seen that already

Vancouver

I need help - does anyone know anything about Vancouver.

I am looking for a hotel and I don't know the first thing about where to stay in the city.

Any suggestions? Tips? Recommendations?

Let the Controversy Begin

Potty Talk

I just walked into the bathroom (which is shared by the entire floor in my office building) and came across a strange situation.

1. The bathroom smelled. Really Bad.
2. A girl was staying in her stall a looooong time.
3. She wasn't making any noise for awhile.
4. She starts coughing when I flush the toilet.
5. Then she starts talking. I now realize, she was on a cell phone.

I don't know what is the worst part? Being on the phone in the public bathroom? Trying to cover up the fact that you are on the phone? And the entire time making a big stink of the place!

Relocating

As i mentioned before, i started an online vegan eco-store and resource center.

Now the time has come for us to move. To help with that we are clearing out our inventory.

Deadly Sunny D Spill

Nazi-era laws alive and well in Iran

Frightening legislation seems about to pass on our next target, Iran.

Iran's roughly 25,000 Jews would have to sew a yellow strip of cloth on the front of their clothes, while Christians would wear red badges and Zoroastrians would be forced to wear blue cloth.

Remarkable proto-evolution going on here. Well, we needed a reason to bomb them, aye, Mr. Bush?

Has She Heard of a Baby Stroller?

There has been all this talk that Britney doesn't know how to take care of her baby, but all I want to know is why doesn't she have a baby stroller?

If I were carrying around a big baby all day it is only a matter of time before I drop it. I mean, come on, look how many times I have dropped my cell phone!

By the way - I am actually starting to feel bad for her - those photographers follow her every step and are probably in her face and blocking her wherever she goes. Be strong Britney!

Class Action Lawsuit Against BarBri

***UPDATE*** A settlement has been reached - Click here for the Claim Form.

Every year thousands of law students graduate from law school and start studying for the dreaded bar examination. Almost every student takes a course called BarBri which is a "prep" class - similar to what Kaplan or Princeton Review does for the LSAT or SAT or MCAT etc...

BarBri has been charging about $2,000 per person (and up) to take the bar review course (which lasts about 2 months) - and now word is out that BarBri and Kaplan entered into an agreement which gave BarBri a monopoly over the bar review courses.

Well, BarBri picked the wrong group to screw around with. You can't go messing around with soon-to-be-lawyers and not expect to get sued. I mean seriously - BarBri is teaching the law that they are now being indicted under!

A Class Action Lawsuit is now certified in the Federal Court of California - and a group of 300,000 students and lawyers are part of the class seeking a refund (or at least partial refund) of all the money they spent on BarBri.

Someone tell me - how do I join this class????

UPDATE: This website has all of the information on the BarBri Lawsuit.

(I don't know if Julie F. reads this blog - but THANKS for the email!)

a virgin's plea

what is it with people using the internet to secure sexual favors? shawn informed us about the guy who made a bet with his girlfriend, in which he'd get a threesome if he won. this guy has made a deal with his friend who agreed to help him lose his virginity at the age of 25 if he could get 5 million hits in one month. he's over 3 million in the first 15 days so it appears that he might win this bet. what's funny is that other women are emailing him and offering to do this favor without the bet. what is wrong with the world??

(thanks michael k!)

Confusing Headline of the Day

"Wife didn't realize Husband Was a Woman"

And the story is exactly what the headline says - woman married to man for 17 years and didn't realize the entire time he was a woman. This "husband-woman" has undergone hormone therapy and has had his breasts removed - and used a home made device in the bedroom.

my fave postsecrets

this is my biggest fear about ever having children. people say that it comes naturally and that once you have kids, you can't imagine life without them. and while that may be true, does that necessarily mean that you'll be happy with the decision to have children?

this one resonates with me b/c half of of my conversations with my mother result in her feeling like she's bothering me by calling b/c i'm such a brat. =(

my mom's a PICU nurse and works in a special unit for babies after they leave neonatal until the age of 4. she often has to see little babies suffer and all too often die. i i don't know how she does what she does, but it always reminds me that if she could endure some hardship to reach out to these sick babies and their families, then i definitely should be doing what i can to make the world a little better as well.

College For Ever?

A 29 year old student at the University of Wisconsin-Whitewater has been in college for 12 years - and just when he was about to graduate he withdrew his application five days before graduation because he wanted to take the opportunity to study abroad!

I don't know if this is lame or really cool? College was great, but do I want to be there for 12 years?

Ok, maybe it is lame. Seeing him as this forever frat boy is sad.

Payola Scandal!

Payola is an illegal practice where record companies pay off radio broadcasters to play music on the radio as if the song was part of the normal broadcast - and this crime comes with huge fines as a punishment.

Universal Music Group has been fined $12 million dollars for taking part in a payola scheme to get "artists" like Lindsay Lohan and Ashlee Simpson on the radio. Apparently this scheme has spread to MTV and DJs/VJs have been paid off with laptops, vacations, bribes and other big pay offs to play the pop music.

And Universal isn't alone. Other companies such as Song BMG and Warner Music Group Corp. have paid out big settlements - and next to go down is EMI.

So where does the money go? According to New York Attorney General Eliot Spitzer, Universal's payment will be distributed to New York-based nonprofit groups to fund music education and appreciation programs.

But how do all the people forced to listen to a pop star's confessions or rants about their broken heart (which aren't even written by the singer anyway) get repaid?

An Offensive Ringtone

Cingular just removed a ringtone that was available to download from its website because it was "blatantly offensive."

I have heard some awful ringtones - especially during movies (!!!) - but this one I would have LOVED to hear just once!

The ringtone was not so much as a ring or a chime or a song but more of a THREAT OF DEPORTATION

The voice on the ringtone said:

"Por favor, put the oranges down and step away from the cell phone. I repeat-o, put the oranges down and step away from the telephone-o. I'm deporting you back home-o"

Hispanics have called it racist. They are probably right. But wouldn't you have liked to know whether the voice was a gringo or not?

Howard Stern Back to Free Radio?

Gawker Stalker - Does it Freak You Out?

The website Gawker (known to be the NYC Media and Entertainment news blog) has a page called Gawker Stalker. On this page people write in celeb sightings around NYC and Gawker posts the sighting with any comments - along with a map of NYC which pinpoints all the sightings.

You would find something like:
Jon Stewart
WORTH ST AT CHURCH ST
May 9th, 2006 @ 10am
I just saw Jon Stewart on the corner of Worth and Church, waiting to cross the street. He had some dunkin' donuts in his hand. He looked older than I expected.

Now doesn't this freak you out a bit? Before I saw the website I didn't think it was so bad - but now that I have seen how many people write in sightings and the comments that they make - it honestly freaks me out.

Imagine this:
Shawn
8th Street and 2nd Ave
May 9th, 2006 at 12:15pm
I saw Shawn walking to a bank and eating a protein bar. Her hair looked awful. Her outfit mismatched. I would have thought she was thinner.

OUCH! Right?
But that is the kind of thing people write in.

What do you think of Gawker Stalker?

Learning Something New

You know when you upload pictures from your camera they get weird names like "img_154935410504" and then when you upload multiple pictures you can barely organize them?

Usually I am too lazy to rename the group of pictures - but I just found a shortcut.

Select all the pictures (either by selecting them all with the mouse or by clicking on each picture and holding down the Ctrl key at the same time so they are all highlighted at the same time)
Then press F2
The title under first picture will be deleted and you can type in any title you want, as if you are renaming the picture. (For example, name it "Vacation")
Then press enter when you are done.
All of the pictures will rename with that same title, but with a number after. (For example, Vacation1, Vacation2, Vacation3.....)

Isn't that easy?

For Danya - The Thumbs Down!

Danya and I for years have been discussing buying a stamp that is a thumbs down. And whenever we meet someone who is a loser they will get the thumbs down on their forehead. I bet we could buy a thumbs up stamp and just turn it around - but that ruins all the fun, doesn't it?

Aren't You Sick of These Already?

Some commercials and print ads are beyond their prime and need to be discontinued.

The Number 1 Culprit: Master Card Priceless Ad.
We get it. A credit card can help you out in a time of need. That's why we all have them. Super. The Ad has gotten so boring that they have one that literally says "blank, $60 " "blank, $100" "blank, priceless" - they don't even need to fill in the blanks and we know it would be a boring commercial.

Fun and Now Played Out: Mazda Zoom Zoom.
This kid was really cute at first with his little "zoom zoom" whisper. It made me wish I had a younger brother. But now everyone is doing the zoom zoom and yea, it is still catchy - but in that annoying way. "Zoom Zoom" should do what the Energizer bunny did - hide away for a few years and make a come back when we forgot that you existed. Then we can say "oh remember how cute those zoom zoom ads used to be?"

Still Looks Gross: Got Milk? Ads.
Every single famous person has been seen with white shmutz on their upper lip. It is so played out. You know why? Because I REALLY don't believe that any of these people drink milk. I bet they are all lactose intolerant (like most American Adults) and use creamer in their coffee. And who drinks straight up milk anyway? I bet skinny Mischa Barton doesn't pour milk on Cocoa Pebbles in the morning.

Stop Torturing Me, PLEASE!: Ride it Like a Ford!
In Miami they have these Ride it Like a Ford commercials that are shot all over the beach and in Downtown Miami and try to make Miami look Hip and Latin and Funky and....well, Skanky. The girls are half naked in the commercial and the song is stupidly suggestive. Truth is that the only people still buying Ford Trucks and wasting all that money on gas need that type of mind numbing commercial to make them feel better about it.

Any ads that you can't stand anymore?
