Project Runway - Season 3 - Episode 8 - High Flying Fashion
Has anyone else been unable to stop using the phrase "make it work" at least 10 times a day? Oh wait, is that just me? Wow I love this show.
This episode was all about the hip, international jet setter. Does anybody know any jet setters, for real? I mean, ok, sure Paris Hilton is on a plane all the time doing her international thing. But that is because
First we start with the model pick. Two models had to be cut because they haven't been used over the past few episode. And now I ask my weekly question - why do we even care about the models? Is this really a competition for them?
Anyway, we saw some air kisses between Heidi and the auf'd models - and then saw some blabber about Amanda being really into the competition (I think that is Kayne's model - is she the talky talky one?). I am not even sure why Bravo even cut to a model talking. I would almost rather watch Jeffrey make whiny moan sounds. I said almost.
Heidi announces that the designers will be designing for a hip jet setter (whatever that means!). They quickly rush off to the work room. They are told they have 1 day, $75 dollars and 15 minutes to sketch. And, oh yea, they are designing an outfit for THEMSELVES! Nice twist!
And once again this week we have found ourselves on another uneven playing field. With four men and three women remaining, and no men's wear in site (hello Keith Michael?) how are the three men supposed to design for themselves? I am actually a little surprised they haven't ever made their own clothes. It is like a chef not making his own meals.
At Mood the designers all pick out colors and patterns that really reflect their personalities. Kayne picked something that looked like a big butterfly on acid. Uli picked a bunch of mismatching prints. Vincent picked black. Jeffrey picked something dark and faux. Angela picked something wacky. Michael picked something smart. And Laura picked something sleek.
Back at the workroom the tension between Jeffrey and Angela is high. Jeffrey quacks about Angela's mother. Angela gets all defensive. Jeffrey accuses Angela of trying to screw him over last week. Really, a bunch of unnecessary drama to fill the time. Jeffrey get over it! Angela stop making pathetic faces!
After Tim comes by and gives great tips all around (do you think the designers bow to an alter of Tim bobble heads at night before they go to sleep?) they head back to Atlas. Michael tries to show Kayne how to walk like a man, talk like man....And well we all know Kayne just doesn't have that smoothness in his step. Kayne said it perfectly - Michael got the ghetto flavor - and Kayne is just white trash! Awww Kayne. You ain't no Britney Spears. How can we say white trash in a good way? Maybe Hick Chic? Haute Hillybilly? Or Le Gar-Baje de Tar-je? (That would be Target Garbage for those not familiar with Shawn's language).
The next morning the designers are back at Parsons - and today they get to feel like Models! Primped and cleaned up for the runway. Of course Michael doesn't need that attention - he is too hot for the runway! He spends his time putting the finishing touches on his outfit! (Every time I think about Michael I just know this competition is his, anyone else agree?)
The models (designers) take the runway. Take a look at what we got:
The guest judge tonight is Francisco Costa (from Calvin Klein). And of course we get Nina Garcia, Michael Kors and Heidi Klum.
The judges score the designs, ask questions, and give positive reviews to Michael (hotness, yet so cool), Jeffrey (rock and roll), and Laura (no rib cage! Upgrade! YAY!). And even though Vincent is a little simple, he still gets some good remarks. Uli is told that her outfit is very "
And just when we think it is all over and someone is going to be cut, they are given another surprise! The designers are told they have 1 hour to get to the airport - because they are the jet-setters! The designs are going to be judged again when they land in the secret destination. After they see how the outfit holds up on the trip, the winner and loser will be announced.
Wow. I love it!!! So unexpected! Even the designers have no clue where they are going - so they throw things into a bag and hope for the best.
As they arrive in the airport they check in and find out they are going to....
The designers play with all the toys in first class and then we see them arrive in
The designers arrive at Parsons and find only 6 tables in the workroom. Someone is going home. Oh Project Runway, so cruel. Fly them to
We are introduced to another special guest Judge - Catherine Malandrino (a famous French designer) - and she has the designers walk the workroom (like a runway) and adds her scores to the NY judge's scores to find the winner and loser.
It is a close between Michael and Jeffrey for the win - but Jeffrey comes out ahead. Jeffrey really is having a great day. Not only is he the winner, but the one person he wants out is sent home - Angela.
I am not so sad to see Angela go. This outfit was wrong wrong wrong all around. Rosettes. Fabric. Cut. Color. Just didn't work at all for a Jet Setter. And it was Angela's time to go. She just isn't at the same level as the rest of the designers. Yves Saint Laurant she is not.
Predictions: Next out - Kayne. Then Vincent.
What is going to happen to Uli? Will she be in? I am starting to worry for her. The Judges really want to see something different. Come on Uli - make it work!
Final 3? Michael (for sure). Jeffrey. Last spot is a toss up. Maybe Uli. Maybe Laura. I just don't know. Please let Uli stay!
